With 100+ million albums sold worldwide, the United States alone has about 57 million albums, making it the most commercially successful heavy metal band in music history. Metallica has also won many prestigious music awards, most notably nine Grammy Awards. More specifically Metallica is also the first artist to win in both categories: Best Metal Performance and Hard Rock Performace of the Grammy Awards. Metallica was also recognized, along with three other bands of thrash metal “four pillars”, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax, which made this genre popular.
